Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Ms. Viegas moved to the East Coast nearly two decades ago with her military spouse. While working as a legal assistant and paralegal, Ms. Viegas completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland Global Campus and a Master of Public Administration and Policy at American University. Ms. Viegas received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Baltimore, where she served as a student leader with the Student Bar Association and a Rule 16 student attorney in the Saul Ewing Advocacy Clinic, where she represented low-income individuals in landlord-tenant and debt collection proceedings and advocated before the Maryland General Assembly for TANF reform, in partnership with the Homeless Persons Representation Project. Ms. Viegas also served as a law clerk at Maryland Legal Aid, the Maryland General Assembly for Delegate Brooke Lierman, Disability Rights Maryland, and an area plaintiff’s employment law firm.
Prior to joining Smithey, Ms. Viegas’ worked as an employment attorney at another area law firm and operated her own practice.
Ms. Viegas, her husband, and their daughters live in Crownsville, Maryland with their dog, cats, and chickens.
Outside of work, when Ms. Viegas isn’t spending time with her family, she likes to volunteer in the community and considers herself an amateur woodworker and aspiring homesteader.
