Timothy M. Hartman

Timothy M. Hartman assists clients in a range of complex labor and employment law issues. He has a proven track-record of successful results for employees who have experienced discrimination and/or retaliation, sexual harassment, and wrongful discharge. Tim is experienced with whistleblower complaints and assisting individuals with contract interpretation and wage-related issues including minimum wage/overtime and bonus/commission disputes.

Tim also assists employers with preventing and mitigating workplace compliance issues by preparing handbooks, restrictive covenants, and employment agreements, assisting with Department of Labor investigations, and providing advice and counsel on a continuing basis.

Before joining Smithey Law Group, Tim practiced workers’ compensation defense in Baltimore City, where he frequently litigated cases at Maryland administrative courts. He also has experience with the U.S. Small Business Administration as a part of their COVID-19 relief programs, the Board of Veterans Appeals, and as a judicial intern at the U.S. District Court in Greenbelt. 

Tim’s work is authentic and client focused. He works tenaciously for individuals victimized by discrimination and workplace misconduct. Compassion is the key driver behind his career in employment law.

Education

Tim holds a law degree from George Washington University Law School and a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University where he graduated cum laude. He is a proud Marylander and alum of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney. 

In his free time, you can find Tim on the golf course or watching a Washington Commanders game with his friends and family.
